Criminal Investigations Division

Criminal Investigations Division of the College Park Police Department is responsible for handling those criminal investigations which because of their geographical considerations, among other things, makes it impractical for the completion by the Patrol Officer. The Investigators assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, or C.I.D., are in charge of processing crime scenes, analyzing crime patterns and criminal intelligence using all the modern resources and techniques available to them. These crime investigations include, but are not limited to death of a violent or suspicious nature, rape or attempted rape, assaults with serious injuries, robberies, burglaries, child abuse cases, kidnappings, bombings, thefts, etc.

The C.I.D. of the College Park Police Department  consists of one Captain, one Lieutenant and one Sergeant and is authorized for seven detective positions. Members assigned to this division have received specialized training in areas of crime scene photography, collection and preservation of crime evidence and the abilities to interview and interrogate witnesses and suspects. In short, this unit is responsible for the investigation of all felony offenses which are reported to and/or investigated by the department.
